YOuth & Parent Leadership Development (YPLD)- Podcast Highlights
It is difficult in choosing just one podcast to present for a highlight. Choosing just one podcast out of many is a tough task. Rather than playing the favorites game, this highlight is meant to showcase all of the podcasts students created over the course of the 10-week programming.
The Summer of Justice: Pass the Mic was a 10-week program for students to learn leadership skills, topics on Social Justice, and skill-building in terms of recording/editing audio. Many of the students are from YPLD programming and come from schools in both Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and Alhambra Unified School District (AUSD). Lead by Kevin Silva and Bryan Kim with the assistance of Melissa Avila. This project brought the expertise of Kevin Silva's audio editing and in radio, and Bryan Kim's experience in storytelling and podcasting. The program as a whole had the added benefit of YPLD's greater network of guest speakers and experts to speak to students. At the end of the 10-week program students, segments are presented on the radio at 101.5 KQBH. Every Monday at 7 pm on Bridge the Gap, starting in Mid August through October. In this highlight you'll have the ability to listen to all 8 of the student's podcasts and the special NEA/CTA podcast. Please take the time to hear some of the student's work!
