AYC is raising awareness of anti-Asian hate through community education, engagement, and mobilization activities to empower youth and adults to prevent, address, and heal from hate incidents. Some recent examples include:
  • Youth Empowerment: High school students worked on social justice, advocacy, and cross-cultural understanding, culminating in a series of podcasts on topics including anti-Asian hate, Black Lives Matter, immigration, and mental health through the Summer of Justice: Pass the Mic summer program. Youth podcasts can be found here.
  • Educational  Enrichment Services: Our after-school program for K-8 students incorporated lessons from the Asian American Education Project curriculum.
  • Anti-Asian Hate Project: In partnership with LA vs. Hate, AYC will continue to create and support local community events, public art, and social media outreach working to increase awareness about hate and build community, such as LA vs Hate’s Stronger Together mural project by local artist MariNaomi.
  • Community Survey: In partnership with Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Los Angeles, AYC surveyed the San Gabriel Valley to gauge community concerns about safety and to inform future work addressing anti-Asian hate.
  • Bystander Intervention Trainings: Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Los Angeles partnered with AYC to deliver Bystander Intervention Trainings for residents in San Gabriel Valley. AYC translated the curriculum into Chinese and trainings in Chinese and English can be accessed here.
  • Teacher Training Planned for 2022: Includes youth from the Summer of Justice program hosting diversity trainings for faculty on their own campuses.
