Volunteer(s) of the Month: January 2018

1/12/2018

Comments

Every month starting today, AYC will be recognizing the hard-work and dedication of our amazing volunteers.

For the month of January, we would like to congratulate Caitlyn, Derek, Martha, Bonny, and Christina. As recognition of this incredible accomplishment, they each received the "May L. To Volunteer Excellence Award" at AYC's Volunteer Recognition and Board Installation Dinner.

Caitlyn Nguyen- Caitlyn attends Rosemead High School. She began volunteering in May 2016 and has since logged in more than 300 volunteer hours with AYC. Caitlyn assisted with one-on-one tutoring, classroom management and park supervision.

Derek Deng- Derek attends San Marino High School. He has been volunteering with the education department at the Asian Youth Center since January 2017. Derek has logged over 100 hours assisting our low income at-risk students with homework, reading, writing assignments and math. Students enjoy their time with Derek and has proven to be extremely responsible, motivated and engaging.

Martha Carranza- Martha is attending Cal Poly Pomona and has logged over 130 hours. Martha assisted in our middle school programming and helped tutored students in grades 6-8. She provided homework, support and intervention lessons. Martha was also able to support AYC through test grading and staff assistance.

Bonny Li- Bonny attends Gabrielino High School and has logged over 120 hours. She was able to assist with classroom activities, park supervision and intervention lessons during afterschool and summer programs. We greatly appreciated her help at AYC.

Christina Harrington- Christina attends Gabrielino High School. Christina logged over 100 hours with AYC, assisting with classroom activities, park supervision, and building maintenance during our summer program. The support of volunteers like her help us continue improving the quality of our services to youth and families.

Keep an eye out in February to see who our next "Volunteer of the Month" will be!
