2nd Annual Rubber Ducky Carnival & Duck Design Contest

4/11/2018

Comments

On Saturday, April 7th, 2018, AYC hosted our 2nd Annual Rubber Ducky Carnival and Duck Design Contest at our facilities at 232 W. Clary Ave in San Gabriel. The event featured carnival game booths, an art design contest, resource booths for parents and families, raffles, and more! The event attracted over 250 people, even with the chance of showers!

The event program was MCed by the Honorable Mike Eng. During the program, the Suk Ching Leung Scholarship, Cheou Wang Scholarship, and May L. To Excellence Award were given to 14 youth to pursue college or secondary schools. The Cheou Wang Scholarship was presented by Michelle Freridge, AYC Executive Director. The May L. To Excellence Award was presented by special guests Alex To, husband of May L. To, the late founding Executive Director of AYC, and Dr. Gay Yuen, AYC Board Member and Past-President. Certificates from Assemblymember Ed Chau (49th District) were presented to the scholarship awardees by representative Cristina Correa. Pranav Sharma, Board Chair of Network for Asian Americans (NAPA), a Business Resource Group at Warner Bros also spoke about their partnership with us throughout the year - volunteers from NAPA were instrumental to making this event and last year's event a huge success!
The event featured a Duck Design Contest where youth ages 5-14 created and submitted dioramas using a rubber ducky and their imaginations. The top three design submissions were Fatima (1st Place), Leonel (2nd Place), and Sophia (3rd Place). Special guest judges for the Duck Design Contest included Julie Ho (AYC Secretary), Chief Eugene Harris (AYC Board Member), and Ken Tcheng (Former AYC Board Member and Past-President.)
