ASIAN YOUTH CENTER WELCOMES NEW BOARD MEMBERS

January 13, 2021, the Honorable Mike Eng, a member of the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board (CUIAB), installed the new 2021 Officers and Board of Directors for the Asian Youth Center (AYC), a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering low-income, immigrant and at-risk youth and families through education, employment, and social services. These officers will lead the organization for the next 18 months, while new board members have made a commitment for the next three years. 

​San Gabriel, Calif. – Last Wednesday, January 13, 2021, the Honorable Mike Eng, a member of the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board (CUIAB), installed the new 2021 Officers and Board of Directors for the Asian Youth Center (AYC), a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering low-income, immigrant and at-risk youth and families through education, employment, and social services. These officers will lead the organization for the next 18 months, while new board members have made a commitment for the next three years.

The 2021 Board Officers are:
  • President: Ricky Choi, Community Relations Manager, San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments
  • First Vice-President: Bryan Chau, VP of Business Operations, Acceler8Networks
  • Second Vice President: Elizabeth Yang, Attorney, Law & Mediation Offices of Elizabeth Yang
  • Treasurer: Steve Arce, Vice President Cathay Bank
  • Secretary: Eugene Harris, Chief of Police, San Gabriel Police Department
  • Past-President: Mary Wong, Chief Executive Officer, Exact Tax, Inc.

“Board oversight and governance, strategic planning and fundraising are at the heart of every successful non-profit organization,” stated Michelle Freridge, Executive Director of AYC.
 
New and returning Board Members starting board service in 2021 include:

  • Mr. Frank Feng (new), Director of Finance, City of Hawthorne
  • Mr. Michael Matoba (returning), Attorney & Community Member

​AYC is grateful for the contributions of one 2020 Board Member who stepped down. Ms. Eileen Diamond, who served on the AYC board for more than 15 years. She served on the Gala Committee for many years, served as the Treasurer for one three-year term, and provided reliable governance and support for many years. “Thank you so much for your many years of volunteer Board Service!” Stated Executive Director Michelle Freridge, “We deeply appreciate your service!”
