2020 Census Program

In order to comply to Safer-at-Home practices, AYC's 2020 Census Program services have been postponed until further notice. We encourage residents to fill out the Census online at https://my2020census.gov/ or by phone.

The 2020 Census can be completed by phone in the following languages:

Q: What is the Census? / 什么是人口普查?
A: 
The census counts every person living in the U.S. once, only once, and in the right place.
人口普查对居住在美国的每个人进行一次,仅一次并且在正确的位置进行计数。

Q: Why should we get counted? / 为什么要计数?
A:
  • It’s in the constitution. / 宪法要求。
  • The U.S. Constitution mandates that everyone in the country be counted every 10 years. The first census was in 1790.
    美国宪法规定,每10年应统计该国每个人的人数。第一次人口普查是在1790年。
  • It’s about fair representation. / 关于公平代表。
  • Every 10 years, the results of the census are used to reapportion the House of Representatives, determining how many seats each state gets.
    每隔十年,人口普查的结果就会用于重新分配众议院,从而确定每个州获得多少席位。
  • It’s about $675 billion. / 关于约6,750亿美元。
  • The distribution of more than $675 billion in federal funds, grants and support to states, counties and communities are based on census data. The money is spent on schools, hospitals, roads, public works and other vital programs.

  • It’s about redistricting. / 关于重新分区。
  • After each decade’s census, state officials redraw the boundaries of congressional and state legislative districts in their states to account for population shifts.

  • Census data are being used all around you. / 人口普查数据正在您日常生活中使用。
  • Residents use the census to support community initiatives involving legislation, quality-of-life and consumer advocacy.

your privacy is protected

  • It’s against the law for the Census Bureau to publicly release your responses in any way that could identify you or your household.

  • By law, your responses cannot be used against you and can only be used to produce statistics.

If you have children in your home, make sure they are counted in the right place.
如果您的家中有孩子,请确保他们在正确的位置被计算在内。
  • Count children in the home where they live and sleep most of the time, even if their parents don’t live there.
    即使大多数时候父母不住在家里,也要计算大部分时间生活和睡觉在这个家里的孩子们。
  • If a child’s time is divided between more than one home, count them where they stay most often. If their time is evenly divided, or you don’t know where they stay most often, count them where they are staying on Census Day-April 1, 2020.
    如果孩子的时间分配在一个以上的住所之间,请算出他们最常住的地方。如果他们的时间平均分配,或者您不知道他们最常住的地方,请计算他们在2020年4月1日人口普查日所住的地方。
  • If a child’s family (or guardian) is moving during March or April 2020, count them at the address where they are living on April 1, 2020.

  • Count children in your home if they don’t have a permanent place to live and are staying in your home on April 1, 2020, even if they are only staying with you temporarily.

Age Requirement:

  • At least 16 and older

  • If under 16, youth can still come, but they need their parents/guardians to come with them. Or parents/guardians sign the parent consent form so that youth can come without them.

Language Requirement: N/A, but Chinese/English Bilingual preferred

***Note: volunteers do not need to attend every day and every week! It is voluntary. So please choose any time range that you feel comfortable with.
